A New Hampshire company is investing about $1.5 million in a new facility to wash dirty and mixed recycled plastics.

Poly Recovery LLC, of Portsmouth, expects the new facility to come on line next month and be able to process up to 30 million pounds each year.

The plastic handled by the new facility then will be made into a recycled resin used by local manufacturers, the company said.

“Not only will the wash lines open doors to more types of plastic waste streams we can divert from landfills, it will create more sustainable jobs in New England,” General Manager Mike Mooney said in a statement. The project also will “reduce the carbon footprint of truck traffic leaving the region as well as provide local American manufacturers with the cleanest and cost effective recycled resin possible.”

Poly Recovery expects to see 10 to 15 truckloads of recycled plastic diverted to the facility each week thanks to the project, CEO John Pelech said in a statement.
