Berry Plastics Group Inc. is adding more than 300 jobs to four manufacturing sites in Indiana as part of a restructuring plan first unveiled last year that will close plants elsewhere.

The Evansville, Ind.-based company now says the firm is relocating manufacturing equipment to its downtown Evansville, Evansville airport, Princeton and Richmond locations from sites that are closing. The company also is adding new equipment as part of a $31 million investment for the Indiana locations.

A total of 330 jobs are being added in Indiana over two years, including 280 in Evansville, Berry Plastics said.

The company had previously said in November that five sites would close, including locations in Houston; Kent, Wash.; and Alsip, Ill. Berry Plastics has not yet announced what two other sites will close.

Overall, the company expects a net reduction of approximately 200 jobs once the restructuring is completed, the company said.

“The relocation of production equipment to Vanderburgh, Gibson, and Wayne counties from other Berry facilities supports our restructuring efforts, announced in November 2013, to optimize our manufacturing operations, maximize production efficiencies, and best service our customers," CEO Jon Rich said in a statement.
